Taipei is easy to get around, which makes choosing a base less stressful than in many big cities. Here's what I can tell you from my own stays — and where my experience stops.
Where I Stayed in Taipei
I spent three nights at amba Taipei Ximending, October 5 to 8, 2026 — breakfast and free laundry were part of that stay, and I've written about it separately. I've also stayed at Hotel Gracery Taipei. I'm sharing these as stays, not ratings.

I explored Ximending on foot and went to a blues jam while I was in Taipei — the kind of evening you only find by being in the city rather than passing through it.
How to Choose a Base in Taipei (general advice)
This is general guidance, separate from my stays. Being a short walk from a metro station matters more than the exact district. Ximending is a busy, walkable shopping and street-food area; other districts suit travellers who want somewhere quieter. Confirm current rates and inclusions directly with the property.
